Gluten Free Eating at Taste of Africa
Our restaurant offers the unique and delicious
flavors of Africa, all of which just happen to be naturally
gluten-free. We use no wheat, barley or rye in the preparation of
any of our dishes. Sauces are thickened with tomato sauce or egg when
needed. This makes our kitchen and our menu entirely gluten free. You
can order your meal with confidence and not even have to make those
“special requests.” It’s all good!
Gluten Free Drinking at Taste of Africa
We currently carry different selection of sodas and
some of these sodas may contain malt. All sodas are served in their own
bottles in a separate cold case. We are also investigating the possibly
serving gluten free beer and some wine in the future. We do not
currently serve alcohol. Bottled water is also available.
What is Gluten and Gluten-Free eating?
Gluten is a problem for as many as 10-15% of
Americans. The details can be a little complicated but in general,
gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, barley or rye and some other
grains. Those grains can also be used to make a variety of other
products like vinegar, and artificial flavoring or coloring to name just
a few. Some people are intolerant of gluten (can’t process it well),
some are allergic to gluten (classic allergy), and some follow a gluten
free diet for other various reasons. People who follow a gluten free
diet are most often those who suffer from Celiac Disease or who have
wheat allergies. Many parents with autistic children have found a gluten
free diet to be beneficial. If you would like more information you can
go to
www.celiac.org.
We are a
small family owned restaurant who loves our customers! Feel free to
call or email us to ask questions about our dishes. We’re happy to
answer any questions you have.
